Description
A great body position in swimming is the starting point for learning all of the strokes, and so in this presentation Abi takes us through the learning of an effective push and glide in children aged around 4 years old, progressing to the seated dive.
At the point where the push and glide is taught, children are comfortable in the water and they have control of their breath and buoyancy in the water. Teaching the push and glide introduces the first stage of feeling a streamlined body position, keeping the chin tucked in and holding the body in a straight “arrow” as they glide off the wall.
Moving into the next stage where the children are seated on the side of the pool to dive in and hold the streamline, gives them a different feel of the streamline while making sure to hold the shape.
Teaching these two skills to young children sets the benchmark for how they proceed as they start to learn the strokes; always having their body in a streamlined position.
